The ALS Coal Division is comprised of a number of integrated companies providing a comprehensive range of services to the coal industry. Purchased by the ALS Laboratory Group in 2007, ACIRL Pty Ltd (incorporating ACTest and MineSkill) is a globally recognised leader in the provision of coal quality testing. Also acquired in late 2007, our South African coal subsidiary, WITLAb (Pty) Ltd (incorporating Carolab) which is the leading coal analytics service provider in the region. ALS Coal also commenced operation in Canada late in 2008, with a start-up facility in Richmond, Vancouver which offers the full range of borecore coal analyses and testing and carbonisation (coke testing) services to the region.
ACIRL Pty Ltd was formerly the Australian Coal Industry Research Laboratories, an industry funded research centre specialising in new developments in Coal Quality management. Having long since privatised and now operating for over 60 years, ACIRL is a major service provider to the Australian and International coal industry. ACIRL has a number of business groups offering specialised testing and consulting services to the coal industry.
ACTest (ACIRL Quality Testing Services Pty Ltd) offers certification services for export cargoes (Superintending) and coal quality testing services. Having International recognised certificates for the trading of coal shipments and facilities in Australia's major coal ports, ACTest provides sampling and analytical services tailored to the demands of shipping logistics.
MineSkill is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) which provides a range of competency based training courses to the coal industry. Offering coal quality courses to the industry's mining professionals to coal processing courses for preparation plant operators, MineSkill can assist in developing an up-skilled workforce for greater production efficiency.
WITLAb (Pty) Ltd specialises in coal quality management for the African region's coal industry, comprising sampling and analysis, borehole core analysis, utilisation investigation, boiler efficiency testing, coal combustion testing, gas analysis, plant supervision and operator training.
