Regional Overview
The Australian Environmental Division – operating in the worlds’ driest continent – is uniquely structured to provide specialist services to the Water Resources Sector in addition to the Traditional Environmental work conducted globally. The sub division, within the Australian Environmental Division was formalised with the acquisition of Ecowise Environmental in December 2009. The ALS Canberra facility incorporates three of the ALS Environmental business sectors. Operating from this site are the Water Resources Laboratories, Monitoring and Technical Services and Water Sciences Groups.
The ALS Water Resources Group Canberra laboratory is a full service, NATA accredited laboratory offering a diverse range of chemical (inorganic and organic), biological, microbiological and algal analyses for a variety of sample types. The 1200m2 laboratory is conveniently located 9km from the Canberra CBD and services the ACT and Southern New South Wales Regions.
The Canberra Monitoring and Technical Services (MATS) branch provides specialised Hydrographic services for the ACT metropolitan water utility and Local Government as well as regional water utilities and mine sites. We currently operate 130 above ground sites and 25 below ground sites, including surface water, flow, rainfall, dam level, ground water, meteorological parameters, water quality parameters, compliance monitoring, alarming and data archiving and reporting services.
The MATS Division commenced Hydrographic operations independently in Canberra in 1997. The ACT Hydrographic branch is a full service, NATA accredited facility offering a complete range of design, construction, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance to suit any environmental monitoring requirement.
The Water Sciences Group, based in Canberra, provides a wide range of services to the water industry including project management, provides catchment management and rehabilitation services with expertise in engineering hydrology and environmental management.
