Regional Overview
The ALS Group Environmental and Food & Pharmaceutical divisions operate one of the largest and most diversified laboratory networks in Asia. ALS has laboratories with extensive analytical capabilities in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan.
The scope of services include; environmental monitoring (sediment, soil and water), air monitoring (stack gas, stationary source, ambient, indoor and industrial hygiene), food, microbiological testing, cosmetics, Chinese proprietary medicines, electronics (RoHS and micro contaminant monitoring), petroleum products and oil trending analyses, and biological fluids testing. Sampling, consultancy and project management services are available at some locations. Specific locations also provide on-site mobile laboratory services and CEMS.
The ALS laboratories in Asia provide a diverse range of analyses in the above mentioned market sectors, from routine analyses to high-end boutique services. A strong commitment to technical leadership is available through an experienced and highly skilled staff group (in excess of 550 staff in the region), state-of-the-art facilities and the latest instrumentation. Instrumentation includes; GF-AAS, ICPOES, ICPMS, GCFID, GCMS, GCECD, HPLC, LCMSMS, discrete analysers, automated titration equipment, SEM-EDX and FTIR.

The Singapore laboratory was established in 1977 and is SINGLAS accredited for a diverse range of analyses. The scope of services includes testing for the environmental, food, biological fluid, electronics, petroleum and green market sectors.
The environmental laboratory offers a diverse range of analyses for soil, drinking water, wastewater, groundwater, swimming pool water and air (industrial hygiene, stack and indoor air quality) matrices.
Standard analyses include; microbiological, metals, inorganics and organics. The food laboratory provides analyses for general food, commodities, health supplements and cosmetic products. Typical analyses include; microbiological, nutritional labeling, pesticide residue analyses, preservatives and sweeteners testing, heavy metals and vitamin content testing.
Biological fluid testing includes metals and organics analysis of blood and urine samples as part of industrial hygiene monitoring. The electronics laboratory provides specialist testing for micro contaminant analysis, particularly for the hard disk drive manufacturing industry.
The analyses are specific to client requirements and needs. A customised service is available through use of a broad range of analytical equipment. The Singapore petroleum laboratory offers services for both lubricant trending analysis for operating equipment (as part of the Wearcheck group) and petroleum products testing.
