Our standard core barrels feature a simplicity of design and precision of machining that have been trademarks of our products for over 50 years. Two different core barrel families cover and provide the full range of conventional coring solutions for our customers.
- The QC core barrel family based on the more traditional 30 ft. heavy duty, modular sections utilizing industry standard disposable Inner Barrels
- The CP core barrel family based on the innovative 20 ft. heavy duty, modular sections which increase barrel stability. The Thin Sleeve System (TSS) is utilized as standard to contain provide superior core protection and recovery
A wide variety of core catcher options are available beyond the standard spring type along with a full range on Inner Barrel options, covering all types of conventional coring operations.
The inner and outer tubes are fabricated from high tensile 4141 hot rolled steel to provide durable and dependable service. All barrels and components are manufactured to exacting standards and subjected to rugged field testing to ensure safe, dependable and economical service.

The Gyrohead is the upper portion of ALS’s double bearing system within our CP Core Barrel family.
ALS offers a range of standard inner barrels for all of our core barrel platforms. Unlike our Thin Sleeve System (TSS), which has reusable components, these inner barrels are disposable, which reduces the amount of handling and disturbance to the core itself when recovered on surface
The ALS coring concept has been specifically designed to enable the retrieval of longer, higher quality cores. This concept has been built on two distinct families of core barrel platforms that offers complete coverage for the full spectrum of coring applications and hole sizes.
ALS Split Lay-Down Sub [SLDS] assemblies allow for quick and efficient handling of long coring runs. Their design eliminates inner barrel rotation during lay-down operations which leads to improved core quality over traditional lay-down subs.
The Spring Catcher is designed to catch a variety of conventional lithologies from soft and consolidated all the way up to very hard types.
