Mineralogical analyses of rock samples provide valuable information supporting geological interpretation and evaluation of hydrocarbon systems.
XRD
XRD records the diffraction or reflection of a beam of X-rays by solids, including geological samples. The unique arrangement of atoms in each mineral’s crystal structure interacts with the X-ray beam, producing regions of diffraction intensity, or peaks, diagnostic for that mineral.
XRF
XRF technique determines the elemental composition of a sample by measuring the spectrum of the characteristic X-ray fluorescence emitted by different elements within the sample, when it is struck by X-radiation from an external source.
FTIR
Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is an analytical technique that is widely used in material analysis. Molecular vibrations in covalent bonds or functional groups are observed due to absorption of IR radiation at specific frequencies.
