Sedimentology encompasses the study of lithological, depositional, structural, and diagenetic features and the processes that result in sedimentary deposition.
A brief sedimentological log and core description is normally conducted on whole or slabbed core at the start of the Core Analysis program and provides the basis for sampling. Core description includes the identification of lithologies and major boundaries, the presence and type of bedding and fractures etc., and can be added to the Core Gamma report to allow a direct correlation between sedimentologic features and gamma response.
A detailed quantitative and qualitative log from whole or slabbed core at the scale of 1:50 forms the basis of a complete sedimentological description. A full interpretation of depositional environments, facies identification and reservoir quality can be carried out. A summary log at scale 1:200 can be presented against petrophysical data and wireline logs. Lithological description and analysis of washed cuttings can also be provided.
Software and Reporting
The capabilities of ALS give us the ability to integrate all available data: Petrography, Geochemistry, Routine Core Analysis and Core Photography etc. into a single report for consistent and considered interpretation. Our geological team is proficient in numerous logging software systems allowing us to provide:
- Stand-alone logs or integration of our logs to your internal software systems
- Depth reconciliation/correction between core or cuttings depths and wireline logs to meet the geological
- reporting requirements
- Report may be constructed targeted at specific objectives.
ALS specialized geologists and petrographers can also offer services in coal geological description and analysis, inlcuding coal brightness, coal petrography and vitrinite reflectance.
