Respirator Fit Test Training program is designed to equip your team with the knowledge, skills and confidence to conduct in-house fit testing in accordance with New Zealand’s regulatory and industry standards.

Delivered by experienced professionals, this program was designed to ensure your personnel meet the definition of a competent person – someone with the necessary training and experience to perform fit testing safely and effectively.

This course is fully aligned with:
  • AS/NZS 1715 – Selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment.
  • AS/NZS ISO 16975.3 – Respiratory fit testing standard.

Both qualitative (taste-test method) and quantitative (CNC method using Portacount) fit testing techniques are covered.

Program Overview and Certification

Our 2-day Respirator Fit Test Training program combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical experience to ensure participants are fully competent to conduct in-house fit testing. Training includes:

Day 1 – theory

It covers respirator types, fitting, maintenance, limitations, legislative requirements and fit testing methods (qualitative and quantitative).

  • Theory assessment – required to progress to practical training.
Day 1 – practical

It includes hands-on training with fit testing equipment, including supervised practice.

  • Practical assessment – demonstration of competency using selected fit testing methods.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a competency certificate, valid for 2 years. A 4-hour refresher training and reassessment is required every two years to maintain certification and ensure ongoing compliance with current standards.
