Sampling & analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in air.

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) occurs naturally in the environment but can also be a product of human activity in particular fires and incineration.

Exposures to PAH in high concentration is known to cause negative health effects.

Analytical method & sampling procedure

PAHs in air are sampled using solid sorbent media such as XAD2 or PUF followed by GC-MS analysis.

There are different analytical methods available including NIOSH 5528, NIOSH 5512 and 8270E with or without enhancements via SIM (Selection Ion Monitoring) and/or isotope dilution techniques.
