Brazil enters the era of quality in pesticides

The Strategic Importance of ALS Laboratories in Pesticide Analysis with Glyphosate and 2,4-D

Analysis with Glyphosate and 2,4-D in Brazil
11 AUG 2025 ALS

Act No. 24, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock on June 13, 2025, marks a new stage of control and transparency for pesticide registrations, especially those containing the active ingredients Glyphosate and 2,4-D. The newly imposed documentary and analytical requirements set a higher level of traceability and compliance, creating demand for highly specialized laboratory services.

New Obligations Imposed by Act No. 24

Document Verification (within 90 days):
Companies listed in Annex I must submit a series of documents to the Electronic Information System of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, including:
• Registration certificates for both technical and formulated products;
• Type and evidence of registration in the country of origin (for imported products);
• Proof of an internationally adopted quality control system;
• Appointment of the national laboratory responsible for QC analyses, with proof of technical competence;
• Import and production data from the past two years.

Submission of Analytical Standards (within 120 days):
In addition to the documentation, companies must send analytical standards (20 mL) of technical and formulated products to the Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratory of the State of São Paulo, with full traceability and formal petitioning.

Implications for the Supply Chain

The rigor is not merely procedural. Companies failing to fully meet the new requirements are subject to:
• Cancellation of registrations with the Ministry of Agriculture;
• Inclusion in the red channel for imports;
• Severe commercial risk with partners and distribution channels.
