Electrostatic and high tension separators utilise the different electrical conductivity of minerals to separate and concentrate the desired commodity.
Electrostatic separation is highly successful in certain operations, particularly in rutile recovery, however it’s suitability is limited due to the strict conditions of ore feed presentation to the separators. ALS currently operates several different separators, including CARPO, HTR, and HTP CORONA STAT units.
ALS metallurgists combine electrostatic separation with other separation techniques, such as gravity and magnetic separation, for the recovery of non-sulphide minerals. For example, electrostatic separation is used with magnetic separation to separate high SG minerals into various concentrated products, after first using gravity separation to remove silica.
