Asbestos has historically been used in various applications for its durability and fire resistance. It can be found in a large number of building materials used both indoors and outdoors, including; carpets, glues, insulation, tiles, ventilation tubes and wall panelling. During renovation and/or demolition asbestos can be released to the air which presents a human and environmental exposure risk.

ALS has the expertise to provide Asbestos testing across a range of matrices including bulk samples, soil and air.

Cooling towers

As part of a regular maintenance schedule the water used in cooling towers should be tested for the presence of Legionella. Legionella pneumophila is the cause of Legionnaires’ disease, which is a serious and potentially fatal respiratory illness that results in severe pneumonia. The bacteria can also cause a milder illness called Pontiac fever, resulting in flu-like symptoms that typically resolve within a few days without treatment.

Hospital and health care warm water systems

As part of maintaining a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff, it is essential for public health facilities to regularly test their warm water systems for Legionella, a bacteria that can cause severe respiratory illness. By conducting regular testing and implementing proper management practices, hospitals and health facilities can reduce the risk of Legionnaires' disease and ensure that their water systems are safe for use.
