As part of the integrated analysis system, AutoScan, ALS provides detailed Impulse Hammer measurements to map the strength of rock samples through variations in elastic stiffness, and also the elastic properties of a core through ultrasonic compressional and shear wave velocities.
The Velocity Tip measures ultrasonic velocities in two orthogonal orientations on the core, providing a means to quantify anisotropy in elastic properties. Moreover, based on established correlations between acoustic wave velocities (P and S) and porosity, the Velocity Tip is a powerful tool for evaluating the porosity on a slabbed core.
