Electrostatic and high tension separators utilise the differences in electrical conductivity between different minerals for separation and concentration. Although limited in applicability due to the strict conditions of ore feed presentation to the separators, it has been highly successful in several operations, particularly in rutile recovery.

As an example, gravity separation is often used as a first step to remove silica from the high SG minerals, which are then separated into various concentrated products using a combination of electrostatic and magnetic separation techniques.
