Coal Quality Course heads to Newcastle in June 2017

Posted 18 April 2017
ALS is proudly hosting the Coal Quality Course in Newcastle from 21-23 June 2017. It provides an understanding of the importance of managing coal quality from the exploration to mining and transportation. It also provides an overview of the end-use of coal in the cokemaking and power generation sectors and the impact of coal quality on these processes.

The course emphasises the need  to optimise a coal resource and a product’s specifications to deliver a saleable product to the end user and to maximise profitability.

This course is an ideal introduction for newcomers to the coal industry, particularly young professionals or more senior personnel transferring from  other  mining  disciplines  who need to understand the “bigger picture” behind coal quality. Over the years, several thousand people have been through this course in countries including Australia, Mongolia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Mozambique and more.

The course includes two and a half days of lecturing and a half-day tour of the Brisbane and Riverview coal laboratories. A textbook is also provided which covers the topics addressed during the course.

Topics covered include:

  • An introduction to Coal

  • Sample Preparation
